The Vallamkali, also known as the snakeboat for its shape, is a human powered boat race that takes place in throughout the backwaters of Kerala during the Onam season.

The main snakeboats hold upto 110 paddlers including steersman. The races are similar in length to a dragonboat but hold 5 times as many paddlers. The main Vallamkalli, the Nehru Trophy Boat Race, occurs in August near Alleppey.
